TOUR 356: Northern Cape and Namibia
August saw Annesen Tours undertake a rather unique tour to one of Africa's less travelled and unknown areas.  The tour kicked off in Upington, South Africa which is far up north very close to Namibian border.  The group caught a connecting flight from the Johannesburg International Airport directly to Upington, which boasts the longest runway in Africa.

Our first stop was at the Orange River Winery, which is an up and coming but still relatively unknown wine area founded on the banks of the Orange River, the same day our group got to see and experience the might and power of the Augrabies Falls, the 5th largest waterfall in the world.

The next day we visited the Kgalagadi Trans Frontier Park, this park is one of biggest national parks in the world and spans three countries, namely South Africa, Namibia and Botswana.  It teams with wildlife of all kinds and our guests were fortunate to veiw a large variety of game.

We then crossed the border into Namibia to kick of the final stage of the tour.  Namibia is a country of great diversity and offers the traveller unparalelled veiwing pleasure. We visited the fossil area at near Keetmanshoop, where we were treated to a show of fossils dating as far back as 260 million years. A tour of the Fish River Canyon, the worlds second largest canyon next to the Grand Canyon was absolutely awe inspiring.  We then went on to Sousousvlei;  this area has the highest sand dunes in the world which are found in one of the oldest desserts in the world, the Namib dessert.  Next we visited the infamous Skeleton Coast, famous for its shipwrecks and  hundreds of miles of sea sand that meets the dessert sand, creating a scene of utter desolation. This unique habitat is the home of world's oldest plant, the mirabilis, these plants are found to be 1500 years old and it only has only two leaves which can span up to 8 metres. We spent some more time travelling to various other places of interest and after a busy schedule a completely satified group flew out of Windhoek  and back on home.

Tour 343:  Doctors Tour to Madagascar
September saw a group of Danish Doctors undertake a custom built educational tour of Madagascar, the tour was hailed a complete succes with rave reveiws from each of the doctors.

The group came to inspect and learn more about the health system in Madagascar.  An educational tour was conducted to labs and hospitals throughout Madagascar;  these included a visit to the Leprasy Hospital at Moramanga, a local hospital in Antesebe and the main hospital in Antisrabe.

The tour was a mix of business and pleasure, with the group taking in the sights and sounds of the Madagascar rain forest with their unique species of flora and fauna and wildlife.  The group also travelled to the mountains and spent time at Anakao Beach, which is one of the most beautiful beaches in the world.

To make this all possible in only 9 days we used small charter aeroplanes to transfer from one place to another.  The whole tour became a very special experience for all those involved.
